History

Over seven decades, UCHINO has been committed to delivering fine cotton products that bring joy to all of your senses.

Established in 1947 and Growing into a World-Class Towel Maker

UCHINO was founded in 1947 as a towel wholesaler in Japan and was the first in the world to introduce printed towels. From the 1960s through the 1970s, UCHINO produced a wide range of towel collections for world-class brands like The Walt Disney Company, Yves Saint Laurent, and Pierre Cardin.

Expanding to Making Fine Towels and Beyond

UCHINO has continuously refined its signature “Light & Soft” cotton materials, resulting in textiles advanced in both versatility and comfort. In 1988, the company shifted beyond a towels-only focus to open its first lifestyle shop, "The Body & Bath Shop," expanding its selection for everyday occasions. Later in 1997, UCHINO opened the texture-focused lifestyle store "UCHINO TOUCH," which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2023 and continues to deliver daily comfort and luxury through touch.

Delivering Comfort and Luxury to the World

Today, UCHINO offer a wide range of wearable cotton including pajamas, scarfs, loungewear, baby products, throws, and pillowcases using light and soft gauze materials.
